“All My Springs Are in You” — Living From the Source

In the Book of Psalms there is a beautiful and mysterious line that has captured my heart. In Psalm 87 it says:

“As they make music they will sing, ‘All my springs are in you.’” (Psalm 87:7)

Other translations phrase it this way: “Both the singers and the dancers say, ‘All my springs are in you.’”

This is a powerful picture. The singers are worshipping. The dancers are celebrating. And together they declare something profound: every spring, every source of life, every well of joy comes from God.

The Image of a Spring

A spring is a place where water bursts up from the ground. It is not manufactured or forced—it flows because there is a hidden source beneath the surface.

Spiritually, this verse reminds us that the life of a believer is not meant to be sustained by human effort alone. Our strength, joy, creativity, and spiritual vitality flow from a deeper source.

When the psalmist says, “All my springs are in you,” he is making a declaration:

  • My joy flows from You.

  • My identity flows from You.

  • My purpose flows from You.

  • My life flows from You.

Everything that sustains the soul has its origin in God.

Worship Reveals the Source

I love that the verse mentions singers and dancers. This is not dry theology—it is celebration.

When people truly encounter God, something happens inside them. Worship begins to rise up. Gratitude overflows. There is movement, song, and life.

It is as if they are saying:

“The reason I can sing is because my spring is in Him.

The reason I can dance is because my life flows from Him.”

True worship is not performance—it is the overflow of a heart that has discovered its source.

The Danger of Digging Our Own Wells

One of the struggles many believers face is trying to create their own springs. We try to find life in:

  • success

  • relationships

  • ministry

  • recognition

  • achievement

But those things cannot sustain us forever.

If our source is anything other than God, the well eventually runs dry.

But when our life is rooted in Him, something different happens. Even in difficult seasons, the spring keeps flowing.

Living From the Spring

When we truly understand this verse, our perspective changes.

Instead of striving to produce life, we learn to live from the life that God provides.

Prayer becomes returning to the spring.

Worship becomes drinking from the spring.

Scripture becomes drawing water from the spring.

And the deeper we go with God, the clearer the declaration becomes:

“All my springs are in You.”

Not some of them.

Not part of them.

All of them.

Every good thing that flows through our lives ultimately comes from Him.

A Personal Reflection

Sometimes God reminds us that we don’t need to force things or manufacture spiritual life. What we really need is to stay connected to the source.

The singers sing because the spring is flowing.

The dancers dance because the water is alive.

And when our lives remain rooted in God, the same thing happens in us—joy begins to flow naturally.

Our lives become a testimony that the psalmist’s words are true:

All my springs are in Him.
